NutriSTEP® and Nutri-eSTEP

What is NutriSTEP®?

NutriSTEP® is a valid and reliable nutrition-risk screening tool for toddlers and preschoolers (18 months - 5 years of age).

It is a questionnaire that parents answer about their child's eating habits, growth, feeding environment and physical activity level.

After answering the questions, parents are provided with nutrition information, resources and referrals based on the needs of their child.

What is Nutri-eSTEP?

Nutri-eSTEP is the online version of the NutriSTEP®, a nutrition questionnaire for toddlers (18-35 months) and preschoolers (3-5 years).

Why screen your child with NutriSTEP® or Nutri-eSTEP?

Nutrition screening is a fast and simple way to find out if there is a nutrition concern.

Healthy eating is important to provide a child with:

  • Overall health, growth and development
  • Energy to play and learn

Poor nutrition in young children can lead to:

  • Growth problems such as failure to thrive and obesity
  • Low iron in the blood (anemia)
  • Poor eating habits that become lifelong
  • Lack of school readiness and inability to learn at school

Nutrition screening can help to:

  • Increase parents awareness and knowledge of child nutrition
  • Identify nutrition problems early before they become serious
  • Identify children who would benefit from a referral to a health professional or a community program
