Puberty Education Workshops for Teachers

Child and Family Health Promotion Region of Waterloo Public Health offers assistance to grade five and six teachers who are implementing the Health and Physical Education portion of the Ontario Curriculum.
Public Health offers two-hour workshops that can help grade five and six teachers:
- Explore and increase their comfort level with the topic.
- Address anticipated concerns and challenges with teaching puberty classes review available resources.
Teachers who attend the Puberty education workshop will receive their own copy of the 'Changing Me Puberty Program' manual that provides:
- 'Ready to go' lesson plans and activities that correspond with curriculum requirements.
- Black line masters to make overheads and handouts.
The workshop also provides teachers with an opportunity to:
- Network with their colleagues.
- Find out more about support they can receive from Public Health and other resources.
The workshop is facilitated by Public Health Nurses. It is offered on three occasions each school year in the fall and spring, from 4:15 - 6:15 p.m. Registration information is sent to all Waterloo Region elementary schools in the fall. Watch for the flyer coming to your school.

Changing Me Puberty Reach and Teach Kit
Grade five and six teachers can sign out the Changing Me - Puberty Reach and Teach Kit by contacting Public Health Resource Centre at 519-883-2256.
This kit contains the Changing Me Puberty Program manual and four videos approved by our local school Boards for use in the classroom.
Public Health has a courier agreement with the Public School Board that allows health information and teaching resources to be delivered and picked up right at your school.
For teachers in the Separate School Boards, pick-up and return arrangements can be made with the Public Health Resource Centre staff.
