Environmental Health

A healthy environment is the foundation to healthy living. Our Health Protection & Investigation staff works with food, air, land, and water environments to protect health, promote healthy behaviours, and prevent the incidence and spread of diseases in Waterloo Region.

This work is accomplished through regular inspections of premises; public education, awareness, and training; and investigation, enforcement, and monitoring through the following environmental health programs:

• Drinking Water (e.g. municipal and private)
• Enteric Diseases (e.g. salmonellosis, E.coli, listeriosis, etc.)
• Environmental Hazards
• Extreme Weather
• Food Safety
• Infection Control in Institutions
• Lyme Disease

• Recreational Water (e.g. pools, spas, beaches, water-slides, etc.)
• Sun Protection
• Well Water Testing
• West Nile Virus

Our staff also responds to environmental health questions from the public.
