Drinking Water

In Canada, we are fortunate to have access to generally high quality drinking water. However, no naturally-occurring water is 100% pure. Water picks up minerals and pollutants found in the soil or deposited from the air so it needs to be disinfected to kill harmful bacteria.

Municipal Drinking Water

We receive treated drinking water from our municipal supplier. The quality of this drinking water is monitored according to the requirements of our provincial drinking water authority.

Why drink tap water?

There is no better way to quench your thirst. Tap water is safe and clean to drink, a great value for your money, and the environmentally friendly and healthy choice.

Tap water is also a convenient choice. Look for these programs to get water on tap wherever you go:

  • Water wagon -this mobile drinking water station provides a free drink of tap water at local outdoor events. Information including event dates can be found online at http://www.waterontap.ca/.
  • Blue W Program - refilling your reusable bottle while on the go is easy thanks to the Blue W Program. This tap water refilling network identifies local businesses and public facilities that will refill your reusable bottle with tap water free of charge. To find the closest Blue W location or to register your business, go to http://www.bluew.org/.

If you have specific questions about the quality of the drinking water in our community, please go to our Water Quality page.
