Infection Control in Institutions

Significant improvements have been made to infectious disease control, but more needs to be done.

Our Infection Control team works to monitor and prevent infectious illnesses and outbreaks commonly spread by contaminated food, water, insects or animals.

Infection Control Activities

Our infection control activities include:

  • Inspection, investigation and follow-up of Reportable Diseases transmitted through food, water, insects or animals.
  • Providing education and responding to outbreaks of infectious illness both in the community and in health care settings including:
    • hospitals, nursing homes and long-term care facilities.
    • child care centres.
    • personal service settings including tattoo studios, body piercing studios, electrolysis, hair salon, barber shops and aesthetic clinics (e.g. manicure, pedicure, facial).
  • Responding to potential exposure to rabies virus.

For tips on how you and your children can enjoy animal exhibits without getting sick, check the Safety at Animal Exhibits fact sheet.
