Public Health and Collaboration with Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs)

The Chief Medical Officer of Health for the province of Ontario is leading a Public Health Sector strategic planning exercise.

The plan should articulate the role of Public Health in achieving the goals set out in the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care's Action Plan for Health Care. It should also achieve a more unified Public Health Sector through strategies to improve health outcomes with the development of a shared plan of action.

Public Health Units and the LHINs have shared their respective roles, structure, and accountabilities that assisted in identifying areas for potential collaboration particularly as the Minister's Health Action Plan unfolds. Shared areas of interest include:

  • Primary care
  • Health care worker immunization
  • Falls prevention in the elderly
  • Emergency preparedness
  • Epidemiology
  • Smoking cessation
  • Workplace health (with health care institutions as workplaces) and
  • Social determinants of health

This web page will be updated with relevant reports and activities that will highlight the ongoing collaborative relationship with the LHIN.
