Additional H1N1 Clinics Announced
Three additional H1N1 clinics have been added for the week of November 30th. “Demand for the H1N1 immunization remains steady,” says Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang, Associate Medical Officer of Health for Waterloo Region, “and we have sufficient vaccine to immunize those who would like to receive the shot”. Dr. Wang confirmed that if demand for the H1N1 vaccine continues, there may be additional clinics added to the list.
Upcoming clinics:
November 30th – Kitchener Memorial Auditorium – 400 East Avenue, Kitchener – 2-8 p.m.
December 1st – Waterloo Oxford District Secondary School – 1206 Snyder’s Rd. W., Wilmot – 2-8 p.m.
December 2nd – Huron Heights Secondary School – 1825 Strasburg Rd., Kitchener – 2-8 p.m.
December 3rd – St. David’s Catholic Secondary School – 4 High Street, Waterloo – 2-8 p.m.
Wang also wants to remind parents that there has been a revision to H1N1 dosage recommendations for healthy children aged 3-9 years. “Initially, children between the ages of 3-9 years of age were to receive 2 half-doses of the vaccine. The recommendation has been changed to 1 half-dose for the majority of children for now”, says Wang. She noted that children age 6 months to less than 3 years, and children 3-9 years of age with chronic medical conditions, will still require 2 half-doses of the vaccine and there should be a minimum of 21 days between the doses. All children over the age of 10 years will need only one dose.

** Chronic medical conditions are defined as conditions “significant enough to require regular medical follow-up.”
