Second local death from H1N1 confirmed
Dr. Liana Nolan, Medical Officer of Health for Waterloo Region, today confirmed that there has been a second local death attributed to H1N1.
“This case had previously been reported as being under investigation, and we have now received laboratory confirmation that the case had H1N1. The deceased, a male, was under the age of 50, with underlying medical conditions,” stated Dr. Nolan. The total number of H1N1-confirmed deaths in the Region is two.
“The H1N1 virus is still circulating in our community, and I would encourage everyone, not just those in high risk groups, to be immunized” says Dr. Nolan. “Two additional dates have been added to our clinic schedule, and everyone is now eligible to be vaccinated. Wait times are minimal, and by being immunized, you will protect not only yourself from the H1N1 virus, but your family and community as well.”
