HIV Testing Clinics

HIV testing clinics are staffed by public health nurses, nurse practitioners and a clinic physician. Region of Waterloo Public Health clinics are LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) positive and persons working in the sex trade are welcome.

All clinical and counselling services are FREE and CONFIDENTIAL. No health card is required to receive services. Call 519-883-2251. Drop-in Clinics operate on a first come, first served basis.

HIV testing is available at both Region of Waterloo Public Health clinics in Waterloo and Cambridge and is also available at ACCKWA in Kitchener.
  • Anonymous HIV testing is available at this clinic. You do not provide your name; you will be given a code number and asked to return to the clinic the next week to receive your result. Another test may be needed. Anonymous HIV testing is 99.6% accurate three months after a risk exposure.
  • Rapid HIV testing is also available at this clinic. The results are available immediately but another test may be needed. You must provide a name, date of birth and if possible phone number and address. Rapid HIV testing is 95.0% accurate 34 days after a risk exposure and 99.6% accurate three months after a risk exposure.
  • Both tests require pre- and post-test counselling. A blood sample is taken by a finger prick (rapid HIV test) or a standard blood draw (anonymous test).
  • Both tests are confidential. The nurse can help you decide what test is right for you and answer your questions.
